Housed in a fairylike Al fresco setting with a stunning walkway, this charming dining space cherishes the enjoyable regime of Jumeirah; the backdrop is charming and lets your soul breathe. Synonymous with unhurried sojourns, this is where lunches turn into dusk coffee which gives way to twilight sessions, smoothly. For light bites break some bread and dig into the dimsum platter or prawn tempura. For those in the mood for something more substantial I would recommend the seared sea bass, steamed Canadian lobster and the spicy vegetable Thai curry. The food, as with the service, is agreeable. It has no pretence, no ploy, it is what it is.

You are in for a treat, Amanwella, in Tangalle, offers you just that in plentiful. It only has one main restaurant where breakfast and dinner are served. Floating above the pool and with an exceptional view of the palm – lined cove, it is indeed the sweetest spot at the property.

While refined local ingredients are a rarity, the chef feels strongly about promoting local food and as such, frequents the market numerous times weekly to pick what’s ripe and to standard. Each dish here from the pasta to the salads is par excellence but the local Srilankan food is something I would highly recommend.

A distinctive space fits all brasserie and what a grand size it is. This place not only stores a pizzeria, an individual oyster counter, grill area, juice section, cafe, cocktail zone and raw bar, but it also has a devoted space for a mammoth Scrabble board, 1950’s ping pong tables, a kind of a theatre, flowers galore, sea-themed library and a fun zone for old-school and slow-paced games. The view is also engaged of frame-filling wunderkinds and the impressive seafront peripheries and stylish pieces seem to have drifted in with the tide here. And yes, the sea is not a mere prop at this Merivale creation, its surfs clank over the menu, too.
